Three Methods of Paying Unemployment Tax

  1. Over ninety percent of all corporations are experience rated. The taxes are paid quarterly on form UC27 in New Jersey and on form IA5 in New York.

The New Jersey tax rates are based on a fiscal year of July 1st through June 30th. The New York tax rates are for the calendar year.

Both New York and New Jersey permit voluntary contributions to lower the tax rate for the coming year.

  2. Non-profit organizations, designated as 501-C-3 corporations, as well as government agencies, have the option of being experience rated or repaying the state dollar for dollar for what the claimants have collected in benefits.
  3. Government agencies, in New Jersey, may opt for a special experience rated tax based on government employment only.
